In the 1960s, a group of progressive farmers created FWAG after realising the importance of the environment in any successful farming business. They endeavoured to bridge the gap between environmental best practices and the agricultural industry. This was achieved through an unwavering service to the farming community, the expertise of a small group of people, and the standards and values they had sworn to serve by.
In 2012, FWAG became The National FWAG Association and today is made up of 15 county FWAG groups across the country, each operating as conservation pioneers for their respective county. Norfolk FWAG has had a prolific role in the history and advancement of The National FWAG Association, acting as one of the association’s founding members.
Individually, all of the county FWAG groups are either not-for-profit or charitable companies with the shared primary objective of delivering expert independent advice and guidance to farmers and land managers, helping them integrate best practice environmental management into their commercial farm businesses.
At a wider national level, the FWAG association represents all farmers’ views, challenges and concerns on environmental issues, and works hard to promote environmental improvements made by the farming community to the public.
Norfolk Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group (FWAG) is a not-for-profit organisation that provides conservation advice to the people who need it most – Norfolk farmers and local landowners. With most of our county’s landscape in agricultural use, our farming advisory service balances the business of farming and the idea of conservation to maintain and enhance our local environment, habitats and wildlife, ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed by generations for years to come.
Our commitment to offering the most sound and factual advice possible to agricultural landowners is reflected by our seasoned board of directors, most of whom are Norfolk farmers themselves, and all are united in their passion for conservation. As a charity offering wildlife advice and support in Norfolk, we achieve this in several ways, including offering memberships at both an individual and corporate level; celebrating conservation with awards and events; hosting volunteer days, and more.
Ultimately, Norfolk FWAG works hard to carry on the standards and values set out by the original Farming Wildlife Advisory Group to support Norfolk farmers and landowners in their conservation efforts.
Norfolk FWAG will advise on and contribute to Norfolk’s landscape, becoming the exemplary region for cohesion between wildlife restoration and farm business success.
Norfolk FWAG will support farmers and landowners to futureproof their land for the benefit of farming and wildlife, ensuring the long-term survival and prosperity of the Norfolk landscape.
