To evaluate the risks and impacts on species on your farmland, Species Surveys may be conducted. A survey such as this allows Norfolk farmers and landowners to better understand the species and habitats present. It can also positively contribute to a farm’s ecosystem as well as track conservation progress.
Within Norfolk Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group’s team, we have experienced ecologists who can provide a range of tailored Species Surveys including (but not limited to):
Farms that are interested in a Species Survey can work directly with our ecologists. These experts will offer species management advice and guidance along with a bespoke survey that is appropriate for your needs and the habitats that are concerned. To enhance the biodiversity on your land and to track conservation progress, our team can provide long-term monitoring of species and habitats to produce regular detailed reports containing species management plans and recommendations.
As members of Norfolk FWAG, your time and investment into conservation will take you further with exclusive access to discounted rates on our services, including Species Surveys, and reliable farming advice from our professional team when you need it most.
Keep in mind that if you are in a Farm Assurance Scheme, you may be required to monitor one or more species groups.
Species Surveys are an ideal way to understand and monitor the health of a farmland’s ecosystem. There is also the added incentive of tracking and demonstrating your conservation progress. Data garnered from Species Surveys can help to inform you of how you manage your land and/or your agri-environment scheme to ensure the highest environmental outcomes are achieved.
Norfolk FWAG is committed to helping farmers and landowners achieve a balanced harmony of economic prosperity and conservation progress, and Species Surveys are one of the many forms of our farming advisory service. By becoming a member of Norfolk FWAG, you will position yourself as a farm that is determined to enrich the local environment, species and habitats, as well as setting you up to gain access to our breadth of knowledge and experience in farmland conservation.
During the winter of 2023-2024, Norfolk FWAG team members, Evan Burdett and Henry Walker, worked with Norfolk County Council to identify ponds eligible for restoration and opportunities for pond creation to reverse terrestrialisation.
Our team set out with the goal of creating a detailed report that would provide an understanding of this situation, which would then assist in targeting environmental stewardship options and other initiatives.
In celebration of Earth Day, a spirited group of volunteers from Crisp Malt joined forces with representatives from Norfolk FWAG — Henry Walker and Bea White — along with farmer, Nick Anema, for a day of tree guard removal.
As the Norfolk delivery partner for the DEFRA Future Farming Resilience Fund-funded Royal Countryside Fund run, and Farm for the Future programme, Norfolk FWAG’s Sasha Wells and Bea White are providing essential support to farmers.
