Norfolk FWAG’s Bea White Wins Prize Presented By Duke of Edinburgh

The 2024 Royal Norfolk Show is officially in the books. However, we’re still celebrating as Bea White, Norfolk FWAG Farm Environment Assistant, has won the Bishop of Norwich’s Sustainable Environment Young Employee of the Year award.

Presented by the Duke of Edinburgh at this year’s Royal Norfolk show, there is no one more deserving of winning this prize than Bea. For those unaware, Bea, is an invaluable member of our team at Norfolk FWAG and her recent success only confirms what we and our members already know to be true – the future of sustainability and farm conservation is in good hands with people like her at the helm.

Along with winning this prestigious prize, Bea receives a sum of £1,000 and a huge stamp of recognition that will be a great asset to her wealth of experience and knowledge.

The Bishop of Norwich has said: “Bea is such a worthy winner of this award, with her understanding of the importance of making space for nature and caring for the land as part of the vital work of growing food. I am delighted by the opportunities she is giving to new generations of farmers too, to protect our God-given precious environment.”

“It’s a privilege to be in that position of trust and I’ve appreciated having the opportunity to go and contribute to these visits with Norfolk FWAG’s advisers,” said Bea when reflecting on her time spent with Norfolk FWAG after winning this prize.

As of writing, Bea is on the verge of completing a 12-month placement with us as part of her degree in Environmental Land Management at Harper Adams University. She has become an integral part of how we serve our members and has played a key role in helping us achieve our mission of improved conservation efforts in farming.

Mainly assisting our members with Countryside Stewardship applications, woodland management plans, and bird breeding surveys, Bea has been able to share her talents and passion with the people who need it most – Norfolk farmers and land owners. Following her degree and placement with Norfolk FWAG, Bea hopes to become a Farm Environment Advisor, something we are certain she will achieve.

About the Bishop of Norwich Sustainable Environment Young Employee of the Year Award

Launched in 2022 by the Bishop of Norwich, the Rt Rev Graham Usher, who is the Church of England’s lead bishop for the environment, this prize is open to employees and apprentices under 23 years old. Entries must be employed by a Norfolk-based employer in sectors such as conservation, land management, and others.

Those who put their names forward for such an award are judged based on their interest in environmental issues; how they have addressed these issues during their current employment, and, lastly, how they hope to continue to make a positive difference in their future careers.

Because of this, winners represent the future for such areas as conservation and climate change and act as beacons of hope that like-minded individuals can get behind and support. Winners receive a cash prize of £1,000 to go toward their training and development.

A huge congratulations goes out to Bea White from everyone at the Norfolk FWAG team for being the 2024 winner of this prize.
