In early 2024, Norfolk FWAG and Norwich City Council were commissioned by Broadland District Council to undertake a feasibility study in the area marked on the map below. The feasibility study, known as Nature North of Norwich (NNoN), will look at a farming and community led approach to nature recovery. As part of this project Norfolk FWAG will be exploring the possibility of creating a farming cluster in the project area.

This feasibility study will look into the appetite from local farmers and landowners of establishing a cluster group, and the priorities that should be considered. Examples of cluster group priorities have included biodiversity, woodland planting, and even net zero (including our Northern Broads group). This study includes a workshop where farmers and landowners can come together to share their thoughts and considerations. Sign up here: https://nature-north-of-norwich.eventbrite.co.uk

The research will also link into landscape mapping and habitat connectivity, conducted by Norwich City Council. Their work will also be looking at understanding how a community led approach to nature recovery could work, as well as opportunities for nature recovery.

The culmination of this work; the identification of farming and nature priorities for a potential future cluster group, as well as community-led engagement and priorities, and how the two can interact with one another.

Why Create or Join a Cluster Group?

  • Meet other local farmers and hear how they are operating in one of the most difficult areas to farm in the country.
  • Hear from topical experts, sharing best practice on a variety of farm capital, from woodland, to ponds, to soils.
  • Access unique funding opportunities, coordinated by Norfolk FWAG, as they leverage landscape-scale funding streams.
  • Visit other farms in the area, and identify collaborative opportunities, such as equipment sharing.
  • Share your challenges with others who understand.

Get Involved With a Cluster Group

Rare Arable Flora Work

In 2011, Norfolk FWAG conducted research to identify areas where our rarer arable plants still occur in Norfolk. The report provided an understanding to assist in targeting environmental stewardship options and other initiatives that will benefit them. The arable flora is now one of the most threatened group of plants
