Bringing Conservation to the Classroom
At Norfolk FWAG, we believe that conservation belongs not just on farms and in nature reserves – but in the classroom, too. That’s why we’re proud to launch our Conservation in Schools programme: an exciting six-week educational initiative designed to connect children with the natural world around them.
Thanks to funding from the Hornsea 3 Skills Fund, we’re delivering this project to ten primary schools across Norfolk, focusing on Year 5 and 6 pupils. Our aim? To empower the next generation with the knowledge, curiosity, and skills to protect local wildlife and care for our environment.
What’s Included in the Programme?
Each participating school will receive:
- Six themed lesson plans, covering woodlands, ponds, hedgerows, and the species that depend on them.
- Interactive, hands-on activities designed to spark curiosity and deepen understanding.
- A comprehensive teacher resource pack, plus a teacher training day to build confidence and support delivery.
- Free conservation materials, including bird boxes and wildflower seeds to help enhance biodiversity in school grounds.
- A creative School Conservation Plan activity, encouraging pupils to design and implement real-world changes—such as planting wildflowers, installing a bird box, or even creating a mini pond.
- Ongoing support from Norfolk FWAG, including potential help sourcing additional funding to bring each school’s plan to life.
To mark the end of the programme, pupils and staff will be invited to a celebratory farm walk, showcasing how farming and conservation can work hand in hand.

When and How to Get Involved
The programme will run in March 2026, with teacher training provided in advance. We’re inviting primary schools across Norfolk to register their interest now.
If you’re a teacher or school leader passionate about outdoor learning and biodiversity, we’d love to hear from you.
